Temple History
Lord Sarangapani – Mahavishnu - deputed His discus – Chakkara to destroy demon Jalandarasura.  The Chakkara pierced into the Patala Loka – the world below earth – and destroyed the demon.  It came out and rested on the hands of Lord Brahmma who was performing a yajna on the banks of Holy Cauvery.  Happy Brahmma installed that Sri Chakra there itself – banks of Cauvery.  It was brighter than Sun.  Sun God was jealous to see another power brighter than him and further increased his light.  But the Sri Chakra absorbed all his brightness and made Sun dark.  He surrendered to the Sri Chakra.  Lord Sri Chakra Rajan appeared from the Sri Chakra all bright on the Vaikasi – May-June - Poornima day with three eyes and hair as bright as Agni the fire and granted darshan to Sun.  As a token of his gratitude, Sun built this temple.
Special Features
Miracle Based: Lord Perumal appears with three eyes.
Greatness Of Temple
Devotees who had visited all the 16 Maha Magam temples, bathed n the Pottramarai Tank (Golden Lotus tank) and in the holy Cauvery cannot claim they had been relieved of all adverse aspects of planets and other powers and therefore superior to others, because all these benefits go to Lord Chakrapani to whom these benefits should be surrendered.

The place where Sri Chakra appeared in the Cauvery is known as Chakkara Theertham and Chakkara Padithurai.  Sun God surrendered to Lord at this holy place.  Hence, those facing problems due to planetary movements in their life, undergoing the seven and half year Saturn period and the rule of planets Rahu and Ketu are advised to pray to Lord Chakra Raja.  Those going around the prakara with devotion and thoughts centred at the feet of Lord will be blessed with wedding and child boon, believe the devotees.  As Lord blesses devotees with three eyes, three items are used in the archanas – flowers, kumkum and Tulsi leaves.  Those performing Sudharsana Homa in this temple will be blessed with multiple benefits.
All the benefits thus earned should be surrendered to Lord.
It should be recalled that Hindus follow the principle of surrendering such benefits at the end of our prayers saying, Krishnarpanam, Narayanayethi Samarpayami and Shivarpanam.  This means that we are depositing our earnings with Him which He releases for our use from time to time based on our needs.
